The Hong Kong Graphics Society, which was established in 1976, has a long history in Hong Kong. There are now about 30 members and the majority of them received training in art and printmaking in Hong Kong or Mainland China, U.K., U.S.A., Canada and Australia. Some members have gained international awards. Their print works were selected by the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition, the National Print Exhibitions of China, and other important international print exhibitions. In the past 33 years, the Society has introduced printmaking to the general public through activities like exhibitions, talks, artist-in-residence programmes and printmaking demonstrations. The Society has also held exchange exhibitions together with graphic art organisations of Taiwan, Malaysia and Chinese cities including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Heilongjiang and Anhui in order to broaden the creative horizons of local graphic artists and promote printmaking creation and art exchange.
This exhibition features the works of 26 members of the Society, including the senior, the active and the budding printmaking artists. Besides the four main types of print like lithography, intaglio, relief, and serigraphy, the exhibits also include mixed media, digital prints and gum bichromate prints. This exhibition is a large showcase of the wonderful works by the Society members.
In addition to the exhibition, members of the Society has organised various education activities which include guided tours, talk and printmaking demonstration. In hope of introducing this distinctive graphic art to the public, a video on the development of the Society and the demonstration of various printmaking skills will be played at both exhibition venues. Supported by The Link Management Limited, a selection of the exhibits shown at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre continue to be displayed at the Homantin Plaza. We hope that the works of local artists can reach audiences from every district and achieve our goal of bringing art into the community.
