Lumenvisum was established in Hong Kong in May 2007, with veteran photographers Dick Chan, Raymond Chan, Leon Suen, Tse Ming-chong, Richard Law and Mak Siu-fung.

In 2008, Lumenvisum set up a gallery and resource centre at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, to provide a platform for education, exchanges, promotions and collecting resources. The center aims at giving people more chances to understand and take part in photography, as well as stimulate people as individuals or as society to reflect on photography as a dominant medium of modern social communications, and ultimately to make more effective use of images to record or express individual experiences, thoughts and feelings. Lumenvisum is also committed to promoting exchange and connections between Hong Kong, mainland China and overseas photography groups and education institutions, to facilitate sharing of experiences, visions and resources relating to photographic creativity and education.
